Interpreting Services

If you have difficulty speaking or understanding English, or you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment, an interpreter may be provided to assist you during Commission proceedings.

Policy

The Personal Injury Commission (the Commission) is a statutory tribunal that resolves disputes under workers compensation and motor accidents legislation. The Commission is committed to providing a transparent and independent forum for the fair, just, timely and cost-effective resolution of workers compensation and motor accidents disputes in New South Wales.

If you have difficulty speaking or understanding English, or you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment, an interpreter may be provided to assist you during Commission proceedings.

The role of an interpreter is to help bridge the communication gap when two or more parties do not communicate in the same language.

  • you can contact the Commission through the National Relay Service, and
  • you can access hearing loop facilities during proceedings held at the Commission’s Sydney premises.

Legal representatives may make a request for interpreting services for their client in writing to the Principal Registrar. Written requests should include:

  • your contact details;
  • the details of your proceedings;
  • the nominated dialect and specified gender of interpreter, where applicable, and
  • the reason/s for your request.
